Your Business. Florida's Future.
As a Florida job creator, you have a stake in keeping Florida competitive for the people, businesses and investment that support your company's continued growth.
The Florida Chamber recently brought our Free Enterprise Florida competitiveness campaign to Illinois as part of a broader effort to highlight the policies and economic outcomes shaping competition between states for people, businesses and investment.
And we took that message directly to Illinois: |
People and businesses have choices about where they want to live, work, invest and grow.
The numbers tell a compelling story:
- Job Growth: Florida has grown 12% from pre-pandemic levels to now, compared with 0.5% in Illinois.
- Business Relocations: Florida ranks #1, gaining a net 503 businesses, while Illinois ranks #48, with a net loss of 218 businesses.
- New Business Startups: Florida ranks #1 nationally, compared with #6 for Illinois.
- Income Migration: Florida ranks #1, gaining $20.6 billion, while Illinois ranks #48, losing $5.9 billion.
- Illinois → Florida: Illinois is the second-highest contributor of income to Florida, with a net $2.4 billion in income moving from Illinois to Florida.
- Personal Income Tax: Florida has no state personal income tax, compared with 4.95% in Illinois.
- Higher Education: Florida ranks #1, compared with #35 for Illinois.
These aren't just rankings. They show where people, businesses and investment are choosing to go. |
Making National Headlines
The conversation is gaining national attention.
Florida Chamber President & CEO Mark Wilson recently joined FOX Business to discuss the Free Enterprise Florida competitiveness campaign, what the data tells us about the competition between states and why creating the right environment for private-sector growth matters to America’s economic future. |
Could the Florida Chamber Be Part of Your Company's Next Chapter?
At the Florida Chamber, we work every day with job creators who are investing, creating jobs and helping us secure Florida’s future.
We’d welcome the opportunity to learn more about your company, understand your priorities and connect you with Florida’s statewide business community. |
Our goal isn’t to have Illinois fail; it’s to have America win. Strong states make a stronger country, and Free Enterprise Florida is helping take that competitiveness conversation across America.
