Community invited to enjoy creation of landmark public art project coming to beloved Downtown Stuart park
STUART—Already renowned for its charm and beauty, downtown Stuart is about to get even more vibrant.
An exciting new public art installation is set to begin Tuesday in Flagler Park with a dynamic mural project by acclaimed artist Samara Ash.
The press and public are encouraged to enjoy the creation process as it unfolds over an estimated three-week period.
“With Heritage Vitalis, I wanted to create something that feels rooted in Stuart while speaking to a larger idea—that places, like people, carry history, change over time, and continue to evolve.” said artist Samara Ash.
The project is made possible by a partnership led by Stuart Main Street, which is dedicated to creating and celebrating the vibrant culture of downtown Stuart through advocacy, events and experiences that promote the local culture and support local businesses.
Women Supporting the Arts and the City of Stuart’s Art in Public Places program teamed with Stuart Main Street to make this landmark artistic initiative possible.
This is the second recent grant obtained by Stuart Main Street that’s helping highlight the area’s cultural significance. Working in conjunction with the City of Stuart and the Stuart Community Redevelopment Agency, the East Stuart Historic District and Downtown Stuart Historic District secured official listings on the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of Interior.
The community worked for decades to add these districts to the national registration. The effort involved numerous local historians, preservationists and engaged citizens.
As one of downtown Stuart’s most beloved and expansive dedications of urban green space, Flagler Park serves as a central gathering place for residents and visitors alike, making it an ideal canvas for Ash’s transformative piece of public art.
The new mural will lay the groundwork for ongoing revitalization efforts within the park and the surrounding downtown district.

Public art has long been a catalyst for downtown economic vitality and civic pride. By highlighting artistic talent and transforming public spaces, Stuart Main Street and its partners continue to create an inclusive and lively environment for all who visit downtown Stuart.
About Samara Ash
Samara Ash (b. Bogotá, Colombia) is a Colombian American interdisciplinary artist and longtime Florida resident whose practice spans large-scale public art, painting, sculpture, photography, and emerging technologies. Her site-responsive, symbol-rich works explore transformation, time, and the interconnected relationships between human experience and the natural world. Recent projects include commissions and collaborations with the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, Disney, Windstar Cruises, and municipalities in the U.S. and Europe. Her public practice also includes lectures on art, civic space, and community, including Can Art Change a City? in Barcelona.
