Recently, a little girl arrived at Place of Hope, and our team was heartbroken by what they witnessed.
Her body was covered in scars—evidence of years of physical abuse. One eye was swollen shut. Deep lacerations marked her tiny frame. She was severely malnourished, withdrawn, and terrified. The person who should have protected her had instead become the source of unimaginable pain.
No child should ever have to endure what this little girl experienced. Sadly, her story is not unique. We witness these realities daily.
Every year, children and youth arrive at Place of Hope and Villages of Hope carrying the visible and invisible wounds of abuse, neglect, abandonment, human trafficking, homelessness, and trauma.
Some are young children removed from dangerous situations. Others have endured years of sexual exploitation, abuse, instability, or homelessness and have nowhere to turn. They come to us frightened, hurting, and hopeless.
But because of dedicated friends like you, they find safety, stability, and hope for a brighter future.
For 26 years, we have provided residential care, healing, and hope to more than 4,000 foster children who have suffered severe abuse and neglect, and provided safety, stability, housing, and support to more than 400 young adults over the age of 18—including youth aging out of foster care and those facing homelessness—helping them build independent, productive lives.
Beyond our residential programs, we have supported more than 500,000 children, youth, and families throughout our community through prevention, intervention, and family-strengthening services.
By breaking cycles of child abuse, neglect, exploitation, and homelessness, we are creating stronger families and a stronger community for generations to come.
Today, she is beginning to experience something every child deserves: safety, love, and family. She adores her beautiful new home, loves spending time with her foster sisters, and is quickly bonding with her cottage parents. One of the most special moments came on Father's Day, when her eyes lit up with joy instead of fear as she celebrated alongside her new family.
She is learning what a healthy mom and dad look like. She is discovering that adults can be trusted, that home can be safe, and that she is worthy of love.
Healing does not happen overnight, but every smile, every laugh, and every moment of connection is evidence that hope is taking root.
Because of compassionate supporters like you, children who have experienced unimaginable trauma are given the opportunity to heal, grow, and dream again.
Your generosity makes that possible.
Thank you for standing with us and helping vulnerable children, youth, and families find healing, safety, and hope during some of the darkest moments of their lives. |
