Employment increased by 139,000 and unemployment was unchanged in May. Healthcare, leisure and hospitality, and social assistance trended upward, while federal government employment continued to decline.
 
The labor force participation decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 62.4%. Average hourly earnings rose by 15 cents (0.4%) to $36.24. The average workweek was 34.3 hours for the third consecutive month.
 
According to the American Staffing Association, temporary help employment was 1.57% of total nonfarm employment in May.
