Seven-Figure Settlement in Premises Liability Case, McCarthy Elected to PBCBA Board & More

CASE RESULT

Glenn Siegel Secures Seven-Figure Settlement in Challenging Premises Liability Case

Firm Partner Glenn Siegel secured a significant seven-figure settlement for WS, a young mother who suffered devastating injuries after tripping over a cord stretched across a walkway. The result came despite major liability challenges that placed the case at serious risk under Florida’s modified comparative negligence law.
WS sustained severe injuries that required three surgeries with a fourth surgery approaching. Once highly active, she now faces lasting limitations that will impact her quality of life for years to come.
The incident occurred when a cord was extended through the air across the end of a walkway without warning signs or proper safety precautions. The defense team attempted to use surveillance video of the fall to prove the incident was our client’s fault. The defense argued that she was more than 50% responsible and therefore barred from any recovery under Florida law. Their efforts were not successful.
