SAVE THE DATE!!!
Family Promise of Martin County is part of a national organization with a proven model-we utilize an interfaith network and community-based approach-to prevent childhood homelessness. We are the only local organization focused on keeping families together through intensive case management and mentorship. The Annual Bed Race is our largest fundraising event of the year. It exemplifies the hardship experienced by homeless families, who often face the uncertainty of having a bed to sleep in each night. It's important that we continue to raise awareness and funds to help these families find a sense of stability and security.

UPDATE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR!

Spring is in the air! As we enjoy our beautiful weather, calls from parents in our program that work full time in Martin County but still cannot make ends meet are on the rise again. It is no secret that rents continue to climb, outpacing local wages, we are beyond crisis mode.  Stick with me though—we are making a difference, and you are a part of this!

We bid farewell to our starting Case Management Director, April Young, that hung in with us longer than she committed to do and we are grateful for her time with Family Promise of Martin County. We welcomed our new Case Management Director, Pastor Shamus Gordon who quickly filled every empty space we had in his first four weeks at Family Promise.

We have four “Almost Home” transitional housing apartment units that are full with wonderful families working hard so they can afford to move into their own rental or qualify for home ownership. Our one single family Almost Home is undergoing major re-plumbing so we had to move our family of 8 out of there and into a hotel in the meantime. We are moving a single father and his teenage son into our Host site Shelter Rotation program and have an expectant mother with two other children and a mother and father and their two children joining our Shelter Diversion program.

In our new Multi-Generational housing program we have paired a single mother with a retired senior that has lived in Martin County over 20 years and is struggling to make ends meet. The number of seniors on fixed income losing their homes or facing eviction also continues to rise so we’re working hard to match families with seniors and seniors with other seniors. We had our very first Senior retiree in our Almost Home program ever so briefly, but were fortunate enough to utilize one of our local independent landlord connections to get her into shared housing.

We have helped five more families in the last two weeks with our Help Us Move In (HUMI) Eviction Prevention funding (Thanks to funding from our grants from Mariner Sands Charity Week and Chapel Benevolence) as we help these families navigate their future plans. They need the help as their current rental prices have increased in the hundreds as their leases renew. We also continue to help our families in stabilization and our Open Table families with their volunteer support mentors mentoring them and helping them to connect with their community, learn and grow to increase stability.

One of our church families is utilizing some of their space to store things for families experiencing homelessness so they can save the money they were spending on storage. We are so grateful for our church families!

Let's keep up the good work--keep us in your prayers, join us by volunteering, participate in our upcoming Bed Races--our race to end childhood homelessness!
