first pitch ceremony celebrates Guy Davis regional park ballfield improvements

A collaborative effort between public and private entities was celebrated this week with a First Pitch Ceremony marking the completion of significant enhancements to the ballfield at Guy Davis Regional Park.
ME's Team, a non-profit 501c3 organization, generously contributed $25,762 toward the installation of a new backstop for the park. The culmination of this effort was marked on Tuesday evening, as representatives from EM's Team, along with Mayor Becky Bruner, Vice Mayor Campbell Rich, Commissioner Troy McDonald, and City Manager Mike Mortell, took to the field to throw the ceremonial first pitches, symbolizing the inauguration of the upgraded facilities.
Following the ceremonial pitches, a baseball game christened the improved amenities, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the community and the Guy Davis Regional Park Ballfield.

10th Street recreation center youth win BookSmart Challenge

Kiana Kelly, the Children's Services Council of Martin County Martin Reads Coordinator, notified the City last week that the 10th Street Recreation Center afterschool program is the winner of the "Let's Race to Read!" BookSmart Challenge that ran from January 29-March 15, 2024.
Let's Race to Read! is a concerted effort to place the BookSmart digital platform into the households of learners through engagement, competition and interaction from 0-5 school age providers. Digital books in multiple languages are available on the platform for children and families to read together, and learning activities are included with each book.
From Kiana Kelly:
"Back in January, I asked all the (already stretched thin) OST providers to participate in the BookSmart Challenge, and Dar’Monique and her team delivered. 12 Children used the app during that time and two learners used the app every day!  I couldn’t be prouder of the effort that was put forth.  In addition to participating in the challenge, Dar’Monique provided impact stories and photos to assist with the literacy campaign getting funding."
"Additionally, I would like to recognize Dar’Monique for her dedication and tremendous heart for children.  From the moment we met, Dar’Monique has shown nothing but exemplary dedication, passion, and commitment to the youth.  Dar’Monique is always responsive, helpful, and cooperative.  She has quickly become someone in this space that I know to be reliable, genuine and an authentic leader well invested in the community.  When we talk about safe, healthy families and engaged communities, Dar’Monique is an agent for those outcomes. It is evident to anyone, that the learners adore and respect her, and that they value the experiences they are having. Dar’Monique leads by example and with compassion and empathy for the families she serves."
"The entire team at ESYI (East Stuart Youth Initiative) is phenomenal and it shows in the energy of the children. I am truly grateful to have such a force on the crusade for the education of our children.  I look forward to more great things from your team."
Per Worldreader, the creator of the BookSmart digital reading solution, 64% of ten year-olds around the world can’t read and understand a simple story. BookSmart addresses this need by providing the books and the support required to build a habit of reading from a young age.
It is proven that reading makes a difference and ready everyday has many benefits:  it improves reading skills, increases knowledge and lowers stress.
The mission of the BookSmart platform is to get children reading so they reach their potential.

Creek District mosiac installation

Saturday, April 6 - 2 p.m. | The Roasted Record

Join us in celebrating the unveiling of the sixth mosaic sidewalk installation in The Creek District of Arts and Entertainment this Saturday, April 6th, at 2 p.m. The festivities will take place in front of The Roasted Record, located at 600 Colorado Ave., Stuart, FL 34994.
Artist Maria Campbell, whose creative talents span various mediums, shares her inspiration behind this captivating piece:
"What inspired me was the fact that ART is imbedded in StuART. This is being recognized now by community efforts to develop and enhance the Arts. The Creek District is a great example of this. I've incorporated some historical reference to the early 1900's with the swirling sky background which can accentuated by the laying of mosaic tile, reflective of art deco at the time Stuart was developing. The seagull represents our environment of the sea, open air, landscape, all inspiration for artists. The hibiscus and butterfly represent the beauty of our natural setting, as well."
The Creek District Sidewalk Mosaic Program is a collaborative effort involving the City of Stuart, Women Supporting the Arts, MartinArts, Stuart Mainstreet, the artists who have participated, and all the businesses that have hosted unveilings and provided refreshments.
Established in 2019, The Creek District is Stuart's designated arts and entertainment district. The Creek District is located just south of Confusion Corner and encompasses Colorado Avenue and the surrounding streets.  To learn more about the district, visit https://www.thecreekdistrict.org/
