Sen. Rick Scott: Recognizes National Fentanyl Awareness Day |
||||||||||||||
| Dear Fellow Floridan, Today, I join my colleagues and families across America in recognizing National Fentanyl Awareness Day. Protecting Florida's families and communities has always been and will always be my top priority. It has been heartbreaking to see families across the state of Florida, and the nation, ripped apart by the deadly fentanyl crisis. Over the past decade, we have tragically lost hundreds of thousands of American lives to drug overdoses, and their deaths have left countless grieving loved ones in their wake. While we have made tremendous progress in the fight against fentanyl under the Trump administration, we cannot give up until we end this crisis for good. In the Senate, I am fighting to pass critical legislation focused on stopping the flow of fentanyl into the United States. Last year, I was proud to see my END FENTANYL Act signed into law. This legislation requires the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to update its policies at least once every three years to ensure operational field manuals, including their drug interdiction guidance, are up to date. I am also leading the Overdose RADAR Act, the OPIOIDS Act, and the SOCIAL MEDIA Act to build on my efforts to stop the illegal flow of fentanyl into our country and support the work of law enforcement cracking down on fentanyl in our communities. I will continue to work closely with my colleagues in the Senate, President Trump, and partners on every level to fight this heartbreaking epidemic. Every overdose is preventable, and together, we can make a difference and save lives.
