April 2026

From the Executive Director
A little over seven years ago, Family Promise of Martin County stepped into its mission at a moment none of us could have foreseen. I began my role just two weeks before the world shut down. With no building, limited funding, and a rapidly growing crisis of family homelessness, the path ahead seemed daunting. Yet even in those early days—meeting families outdoors, relying on prayer, and navigating countless closed doors—God was already preparing the way. Though grants were scarce and recognition slow, our congregations, volunteers, and donors remained faithful. Together, we took the small steps God set before us, trusting He would turn them into something meaningful.

As the months unfolded, we watched God weave together solutions only He could have authored. A landlord willing to take a chance. Congregations adapting hospitality models in the midst of a pandemic. Volunteers serving creatively wherever they were needed. These quiet acts of courage and generosity helped us build an interfaith network of shelter and transitional housing, and sparked innovative approaches such as tiny homes on church property. Even when larger organizations overlooked or dismissed us, we stayed focused on faithfulness, knowing that God measures obedience—not visibility. Our mission grew because it was upheld by prayer, creativity, perseverance, and the steady support of our faith community and private donors.

Today, as I write en route to visit my daughter—who is bravely fighting her own battle—I’m filled with gratitude. You, our congregations, donors, volunteers, and friends, have carried this mission with grace and conviction. Your gifts of time, talent, treasure, and prayer have shaped every step of our journey. We are also grateful in recent years to partner with Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council, our local continuum of care, which is helping increase the number of housing units available so we can better meet the growing need alongside our faith partners. As we enter the next chapter, I trust, as I always have, that God will continue to shape us, refine us, and provide for us. Thank you for walking with us then, now, and in all that is to come.

Event Updates
We continue working on the planning all future events, including our 2026 Bed Race hosted on November 14, 2026!
Thankful Tuesdays & Thursdays is going to be an experience you won't forget & we only have 4 spots open!

Occasionally, Family Promise of Martin County invites members of the community to gather for an intimate night of connection, conversation, and perspective. It starts with wine, charcuterie, and good company—but then the reality sets in.

Guests are immersed in an experience designed to challenge what we think we know about homelessness in our own community. You’ll observe. You’ll ask questions. You may feel a bit uncomfortable and at times, you won’t know what’s real…

Only at the end do we come together to reflect, share, and discover how Family Promise walks alongside families facing housing instability every single day.

Limited dates. Limited seats. Lasting impact.
Curious? You should be.

Program Updates

Feb. - Mar. 2026
As we celebrated the season of love in February, our program night focused on a different kind of care. Helping families feel safe and supported on the road. Through a car maintenance Program Night, families learned practical skills like checking fluids, understanding warning lights, and maintaining their vehicles with confidence. Just as the holiday reminds us to show love in meaningful ways, this evening was all about empowerment. Equipping our families with the knowledge they need to stay safe, reduce unexpected expenses, and keep moving forward. Because sometimes, love looks like stability, independence, and the ability to get where you need to go.
Our March Program Night was hosted by the Healing Center, and provided a meaningful opportunity for our families to come together and focus on overall mental health and the importance of building healthy habits. Through open conversation and guided discussion, we explored practical ways to manage stress, create positive routines, and prioritize emotional well being in everyday life. The evening created a safe and supportive space for individuals to reflect, share, and learn from one another. We are grateful for the opportunity to offer programming that empowers our families with tools to strengthen both their mental health and daily habits.
FAMILY CENTER UPDATES
We are incredibly grateful to announce that our Family Center is officially THE "Green House" that will be safer, brighter, and a more welcoming environment for those who walk through our doors!

-Special thanks to Bob Thornton and his partners at O'Donnell Impact Windows & Storm Protection, as well as Milter Brands and PGT Winguard, for their contributions of new hurricane-proof windows & doors!

-We would also like to thank Robert & his associates at Millman Services for the beautiful outside repainting of our Family Center!

Their support truly made a difference, and we thank them for helping us create a place that feels like home.
VOLUNTEER UPDATES & NEEDS
Each and every month, we take a moment to recognize the incredible volunteers who serve alongside us with such dedication and heart. This month, we’re sending our deepest thanks to the volunteers who supported us in February & March:

Billy, Jack, Barb, Bev & Jere, David, Sydney, Lorna, Velvet, Aj, Nemo, Reno and Thomas.

These fantastic volunteers always put their best effort forward, being the true definition of loving support.
Everything they do includes some laughter, integrity, and shared passion in helping families in our community succeed!

On March 12th, we had the joy of celebrating our volunteers at our Appreciation event, themed “You Donut Know How Much We Appreciate You.” With nearly 20 volunteers in attendance, it was a wonderful experience of connection, laughter, and well-deserved recognition. Volunteers had the chance to mingle, get to know one another, and of course enjoy delicious donuts generously donated by Dixie Cream Donuts. Each volunteer even received a fun donut inspired name, like “Captain Caramel Bear Claw,” adding a lighthearted touch to a morning centered around gratitude. Events like these are just a small way to say thank you for the time, compassion, and dedication our volunteers bring to our families every day.

Our volunteers are truly the heart of everything we do, and we are always grateful to welcome more helping hands. Whether as Family Center Angels, childcare volunteers, or our amazing Cleaning Angels.
This month's Newsletter is dedicated in loving memory to
Barney Salzberg
With grateful hearts, we remember a volunteer who gave so generously of his time, kindness, and spirit. His presence brought warmth to our center and comfort to the families we serve, leaving a lasting impact that will not be forgotten.

Whether through small acts of care or moments of genuine connection, he made a difference in ways that truly mattered. We are deeply thankful for the time we shared and will continue to carry his memory with us in all that we do.
