Why Making Tax Relief Permanent Matters to Our Communities
Pro-growth policies support families, businesses, and local economies.
When policies help local businesses thrive, our families, friends, and neighbors benefit. Permanent tax relief isn’t just a policy decision in Washington — it’s a lifeline for Main Street, the heartbeat of our communities.

Big picture: Unless Congress acts to make permanent key provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) before they expire at the end of 2025, families and local businesses may see the largest tax hike in American history.

Why it matters: Pro-growth tax policy will help drive the sustained economic growth needed to improve Americans’ lives and help communities thrive. Reversing these gains would be a step backward.

The impact of tax relief: The 2017 tax reforms helped countless businesses grow and communities prosper. Without these provisions, local businesses could face significant challenges that directly impact their ability to create jobs and strengthen our neighborhoods.
  • For Victoria Thomas, CFO and co-owner of Kellymoss, a small automobile restoration business in Madison, Wisconsin, the reforms have been a game-changer. “Since 2017, we’ve grown from 24 employees to 130,” Thomas said. “With investments in infrastructure and capital equipment needed to sustain such growth, it would be absolutely impossible to continue without these tax advantages.”

  • “It’s about people. It’s about providing better paychecks and greater opportunities for families across America,” Traci Tapani, co-president of Wyoming Machine, a sheet metal workshop in Minnesota, said. “A competitive tax code supports manufacturing in the U.S. and helps our industry grow.”

What we’re doing: As part of a comprehensive advocacy campaign, the U.S. Chamber is amplifying the voices of elected officials, local leaders, and communities to urge Congress to pass permanent tax reform.
  • “Tax cuts need to be made permanent,” said Rep. John Joyce (R-PA) at an event in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. “The impact of these is what I heard today from multiple small business owners, allowing them to hold onto their tax dollars so they can make plans to expand, hire additional employees, make lives better.”

  • Congressman Vince Fong (R-CA) echoed this sentiment at an event in Bakersfield, California, saying, “Today’s stories from our business owners and community leaders underscore the critical need for pro-business legislation. I look forward to amplifying their heartfelt and important messages throughout the halls of Washington as we work to revitalize our economy.”

We will be hosting more events in communities across the country. The stories told are a powerful reminder of how local businesses have leveraged pro-growth tax policy to create jobs and give back to their communities. Yet, there’s still work to do.

We want to hear from you. Your voice matters in shaping the decisions that impact your family, your business, and your community. Share your story with the U.S. Chamber and show lawmakers why pro-growth tax policies are critical for everyday Americans.

Bottom line: Together, we can ensure these vital tax reforms become permanent and continue empowering businesses and employees to support our communities.
