Strengthening Florida’s Rural and Manufacturing Sectors | |
Good afternoon, The Florida Chamber of Commerce is pleased to share that both SB 110 and SB 600 have successfully passed their respective Senate committees. These bills represent significant steps toward strengthening Florida’s rural communities and manufacturing industry, aligning with key goals outlined in the Florida 2030 Blueprint to ensure Florida remains globally competitive. SB 110 – Supporting Florida’s Rural Communities Sponsored by Senator Corey Simon, also known as “Florida’s Rural Renaissance,” and Senate President Ben Albritton’s top priority, SB 110 helps address the unique challenges rural communities face, supporting economic development, infrastructure, and access to essential services. With Florida’s 31 rural counties currently representing 2.92% of the state’s economy, this bill will provide essential resources to help reach the Blueprint goal of doubling the rural share of state GDP to 5.56%. This legislative progress reinforces the Florida Chamber Foundation’s latest research, The Rural Renaissance: Realizing Florida’s Full Economic Potential, which highlights that Florida’s rural counties have outpaced non-rural counterparts in economic growth, experiencing a 56.6% GDP increase from 2018 to 2023. The report underscores how targeted investments in infrastructure, broadband, AgTech, and manufacturing will further accelerate this momentum—reinforcing the importance of policies like SB 110. SB 110 will:
