Students Explore Water Treatment Process
Sixty-five (65) youth in grades 3-5 from J.D. Parker Elementary School received a crash-course in water treatment when touring the City of Stuart Water Treatment Plant and the Reverse Osmosis Facility this week.
The students listened intently and asked a number of questions of Plant Superintendent Michael Woodside and Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee Brian Shing during their tours.
Following the two-plant tour, students ended the field trip with lunch at the 10th Street Community Center.
J.D. Parker Elementary School is a STEM-focused institution, emphasizing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in its curriculum. This approach integrates these disciplines to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative skills among students.
The school offers various programs to enhance STEM learning, including participation in the Martin County Elementary STEM Fair, an academic competition for students in grades K-5.
The mission of J.D. Parker Elementary is to "cultivate learning experiences for ALL to strengthen a DIVERSE, RESILIENT, and SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY through trust, compassion, stability, and hope."
This mission reflects the school's commitment to creating an inclusive environment where STEM education serves as a foundation for developing well-rounded, future-ready students.
Who knows? Maybe we have a few future water plant operators or engineers in this group! |

Heirs’ Property Assistance Program
Did you know the City of Stuart offers an Heirs’ Property Assistance Program? Administered by the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), this program helps stabilize neighborhoods by increasing property ownership and individual wealth.
When a property owner passes away, ownership may be divided among multiple heirs, creating heirs’ property. Without probate and a clear title, these properties are ineligible for homestead tax exemptions, federal home improvement grants, and financing options like mortgages or refinancing. Unpaid taxes can also result in property loss.
This program helps heirs gain clear titles to their homes, allowing them to:
- Obtain homestead tax exemptions
- Access home repair and rehabilitation programs
- Secure homeowner’s insurance
- Negotiate with lenders
Eligible participants receive up to $3,000 in legal assistance. Funds are limited and subject to availability.
