Neil Capozzi makes art happen. Wherever there are groups of community members promoting the arts, Neil is there – serving in a leadership capacity, volunteering for tasks both large and small, and promoting both arts events and the artists themselves.
The arts have been his passion since his childhood, when he studied art as a student. After graduation, he set out to build what eventually become a lifelong career in the arts retail industry.
Beginning as a clerk in the early 1970s with Jay Mar Sales, he helped grow the company to five stores across Connecticut and Florida and later became a partner. When Jay Mar eventually closed in 2012, Neil stepped into the arts retail vacuum left in the community and founded Stuart Art Supply and Studio. The business became a creative hub for Martin County, providing quality materials for artists and studio space for instructors and students.
By the time Neil sold the business in 2025, he had built a lasting legacy within the local arts community. Young would-be artists as well as accomplished professionals came to know him as a trusted source of solid information and a champion of the arts.
For many years Neil has served on the MartinArts Council and Foundation boards, guiding and supporting their work. He has enthusiastically contributed to efforts to create the Stuart High School Arts Center project, and he helped establish the thriving Creek Arts District in downtown Stuart.
Whether he’s welcoming people to ArtsFest each year or explaining the importance of the arts to our quality of life, Neil continues to be a cheerleader for the arts in all their forms.
