Stuart's Citizens Police Academy
Week 5 Action & Insights
The 2025 Stuart Citizens Police Academy is nearing the finish line! This week, participants wrapped up session five, with just two more classes before graduation. And what a week it was!
Getting the Inside Scoop on Internal Affairs
Lt. Gerwan took the class behind the scenes of Internal Affairs (IA)—a unit dedicated to investigating officer misconduct while also protecting officers from false allegations. He broke down the investigative process, disciplinary actions, and IA’s critical role in maintaining integrity and public trust.
Fire Rescue: From the Classroom to the Action!
Just as Stuart Fire Rescue was gearing up for a demo, they got a real-life dispatch call for a traffic accident! Officer Rachael Minor jumped in, explaining the radio transmissions, including how emergency teams coordinate Trauma Hawk airlifts when needed.
Once Fire Rescue returned, they rolled up in a quint fire truck—a powerhouse combining a ladder truck and a fire engine. The team demonstrated:
• Truck stabilization for safe operations
• High-pressure water hose use in action
• A50-foot ladder extension, with a firefighter climbing to the top.
What’s Next?
Next week’s session brings even more excitement with a K-9 demonstration, Special Response Team (SRT) presentation, and an inside look at officer training.
Want to join next year’s Academy? Applications for the 2026 Citizens Police Academy open soon! Contact Corporal Amy Duran at (772) 287-1122 to learn more. |
