Runners, Walkers & Wagging Tails Take Over Memorial Park!
Last Saturday’s Sailfish Sprint & Walk 4H2O turned Memorial Park into a hub of energy, excitement, and friendly competition! From speedy sprinters to happy-go-lucky walkers (including some four-legged friends), the event brought together participants and spectators of all ages for a morning of movement and fun.
Fun Fact: The age range of our amazing 5K and 10K participants stretched from 9 to 87--proof that running (or walking) truly has no age limit!
The races kicked off right on time at 7 a.m., with over 240 runners hitting the pavement for the 5K and 10K, while at 8:30 a.m., a dozen energetic kids dashed into the Kids Run, followed by 66 walkers stepping up for the 1-mile Walk 4H2O.
Everyone who crossed the finish line in the 5K, 10K, and Kids Run proudly earned a finisher medal—because every effort deserves a celebration! And of course, no race is complete without a proper post-run refuel, featuring a spread of fruit, carbs, juice, coffee, and more to help runners recharge.
The scenic racecourse wove through East Stuart and surrounding neighborhoods, looping back to Memorial Park, where participants could bask in their post-run glow while hydrating and replenishing with some well-earned goodies.
Shoutout to MCM Timing for keeping everyone on track! Race results are up at RunTheDay.com.
A huge THANK YOU to our amazing sponsors who made it all possible:
• Title Sponsor: My Favorite Law Firm
• Sailfish Sponsor: Seacoast Bank
• RipCurl Sponsors: Rish Strategies/Gehring Group & Florida Blue
• Community Partners: Reich & Mancini, Fleet Feet Stuart/Port St. Lucie, Citizens 4H2O, Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company, Publix, and Adam’s Artworks

REMINDER
Daylight Saving Time Begins Sunday 2 a.m.!
Spring Forward, Stay Safe!
Rise and shine, Stuart! Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 9, so don’t forget to set your clocks forward one hour before bed on Saturday night. Yes, we’ll lose an hour of sleep, but think of all that extra sunshine!
While you’re at it, take a quick minute to check and replace the batteries in your home fire alarms. A working smoke detector can be a lifesaver, and this seasonal switch is the perfect reminder to stay prepared.
So, spring forward, check those alarms, and get ready for longer, brighter days ahead! |

CITY SMARTS
Keeping Those Grinder Pumps Happy
Welcome to the world of sewage systems in the City of Stuart!
Picture this: miles of pipes snaking through the city, carrying sewage like a secret underground river. But hold up, what's that rumbling in your yard? It's none other than your trusty grinder pump, the unsung hero of the sewage saga!
Now, let's talk about variety. Just like a buffet, the city serves up different sewage systems tailored to each neighborhood's flavor. And guess what? Topography gets a starring role in this design drama. If your area's too flat for gravity to do its thing, enter stage left: pumps! They're the MVPs, pushing sewage uphill like it's no biggie.
But hey, if your home's got a pressure system, it's grinder pump time! Think of it as your sewage's personal trainer, grinding away like a champion to push waste through those tiny pipes. It's like a mini sewage marathon every day!
City-owned grinder pump stations strut their stuff in your front or side yard, where city crews can easily maintain them. But beware: no planting flower beds or installing fishponds around the stations. They need their space!
And let's not forget the underground party of electrical wires! It's like a treasure hunt, but instead of gold, you find wires, lines, and sometimes piping. So, remember, call the city to locate the lines before you dig, unless you're into shocking surprises!
With teamwork and keeping forbidden items out of the mix, your low-pressure system will keep on churning out the good stuff for years to come! Just remember: protect your pump. No sump pumps allowed! And now, for the grand finale, let's talk about what not to toss down your sinks, toilets, or drains.
Consider this the "Forbidden Items List" of sewage land:
1. Glass, Metal, Wood, Seafood Shells: These belong in the recycling bin or compost pile, not the sewage system!
2. Papers, Socks, Rags, or Cloth of Any Kind: Your drains aren't laundry baskets. Keep them clear of anything that's not meant to be flushed.
3. Plastic Objects (Toys, Eating Utensils, etc.): Plastic may last forever, but your sewage system won't if it's clogged with toys or forks!
4. Any Strong Chemical, Toxic, Caustic, or Poisonous Substance: Save the science experiments for the lab. Dumping chemicals down the drain spells trouble.
5. Degreasing Solvents: Keep those heavy-duty cleaners away from your drains. They'll just gum up the works.
6. Any Explosive or Flammable Material: Your toilet is not a bomb shelter. Keep things safe by keeping the fireworks out.
7. Gasoline, Kerosene, Fuel, Oil, Paint Thinner, or Anti-freeze: These liquids have no business in your drains. Period.
8. Lubricating Oil or Grease: Your drains may need a little love, but they're not fans of oily hugs. Save the grease for cooking, not plumbing.
9. Cooking Fat (Lard, Oil, Grease): Don't let those leftovers go to waste by pouring them down the drain. It's a recipe for disaster.
10. Hair Clippings: Give your drains a break from the hairy situation. Toss those clippings in the trash instead.
Remember, when in doubt, throw it out (in the appropriate bin, of course)! Let's keep our sewage system flowing smoothly and our city sparkling clean.
And, if a problem does occur, call the city’s customer service department at (772) 288-5317. |
