Florida Chamber Sustainability Council Virtual Meeting | WM’s $90M Recycling Investment

Florida Chamber Sustainability Committee Meeting
March 2, 2026
We are pleased to invite you to join us for the upcoming Florida Chamber Sustainability Council virtual meeting on Monday, March 2, at 1:00 PM ET.

This meeting will feature a guest presentation from Dawn McCormick, Director of Communications & Government Affairs at WM.

WM recently unveiled its new $90 million WM Recycling South Florida facility in Pembroke Pines, one of the largest and highest-volume recycling facilities in the company. The facility is expected to process approximately 275,000 tons of material annually by leveraging advanced automation and artificial intelligence to improve material recovery and reduce contamination.
As Florida businesses continue advancing sustainability across operations, workforce, and manufacturing, this discussion will highlight how infrastructure investment and innovation are driving measurable environmental impact. The session aligns with the Florida Chamber Sustainability Council’s mission to make Florida the most sustainable state in America by advancing business-led solutions that protect and improve our air, land, and water while strengthening long-term economic competitiveness.

WM’s investment reflects the type of private-sector leadership our Council champions. By combining advanced technology with operational excellence and community partnership, this project demonstrates how scalable solutions can reduce waste, improve resource management, and contribute to a cleaner Florida.
During the session, Dawn will share insights on:

  • WM’s $1.4 billion enterprise-wide investment in 39 new and upgraded recycling facilities across North America
  • How AI-powered optical sorting and automation increase efficiency and expand recyclable materials
  • Expanded capabilities for processing plastics, including polypropylene materials
  • The role of advanced recycling infrastructure in supporting circularity and community partnerships
  • How businesses can align sustainability goals with evolving environmental expectations

This conversation will provide members with a strategic look at how infrastructure, policy, and business leadership intersect to advance sustainability across Florida.
