Joseph,
I’m Dr. Charly Good, a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania working on CAR T-cell therapy to identify better ways to improve treatment options for patients who have particularly difficult-to-treat cancers. My research is funded by the American Cancer Society, through supporters like you. Thank you.
I became a researcher because I’m inspired by the promise of research to create a better future for people with cancer, and to give hope to all of us.
But even before I was a researcher, cancer was personal for me: Both of my grandmothers passed away from breast cancer before I was born, and my aunt also had breast cancer.
When you got a cancer diagnosis 30 or 40 years ago, the treatment options weren’t great. But continuous research has led to more effective treatment options for many cancers. For example, having more options means breast cancer has become a manageable disease. In fact, breast cancer five-year relative survival is now at 91%, up from 75% in 1975-77.
That’s in part because of research funded by the American Cancer Society through the support of people like you, Joseph. |
