Meet Terlla - A Single Mom Who Is Thriving Because Of You

You Make Stories Like Terlla's Possible

I spent years feeling invisible, moving from placement to placement. I learned to adapt to new homes, new schools, and new faces. Each move chipped away at my confidence, and I began to wonder if I would ever belong anywhere.

When I came to Place of Hope, I finally found what I had been searching for my whole childhood— stability, safety, and unconditional love. Here, I was seen. I was heard. I was believed in.

They didn’t just give me a roof; they gave me hope, purpose, and a path forward. Today, I am building a life filled with independence, healing, and gratitude. Foster care wasn’t the end of my story — it was the beginning of a powerful one.

To everyone who supports Place of Hope, thank you. Your generosity makes stories like mine possible.”

Rewrite a Story. Rewrite a Future. Double Your Impact.

Right now in Palm Beach County, more than 2,000 young people and families are experiencing homelessness. Not on faraway streets—not in another state—right here in our own community, in the shadows of beautiful neighborhoods and breathtaking beaches.

Many are trapped in a heartbreaking cycle of generational poverty, childhood trauma, abuse, and homelessness.

A cycle they did not choose…
A cycle they are desperate to break.

At Villages of Hope, we meet young adults at the moment they feel most alone—when the world expects them to survive without support, without guidance, and without a place to call home.
And yet, even in the darkest moments, many still dare to dream of a different life.

One young woman came to us after years of instability, hardship, and trying to build a future with no foundation under her feet. Her parents had not modeled safety or stability, so she made a powerful decision: to become what her parents never were.

To break the cycle.
To build a life she could be proud of.

She reached out for help—hoping someone would hear her. We did. And her story began to change.
With safe housing, mentorship, counseling, and community, she found not just stability…but possibility.

Her story is one of hundreds rewritten since Villages of Hope first opened its doors.

But there are so many more young people waiting. So many more stories that deserve a new chapter. So many futures hanging in the balance.

You can help rewrite them.

From now through December 31, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling your impact and doubling the hope you give.

Your gift today means:
A safe home for a young person who has none
A mentor for someone who has never had one
A fresh start for a youth breaking generational cycles
A future that is no longer defined by the past

You have the power to help end homelessness—one life, one story at a time.

Join us today. Be part of the legacy that breaks cycles and builds futures. Give now, and your impact will be doubled through December 31!

As Human Rights Month invites reflection on dignity, safety and opportunity for all, Place of Hope stands as a beacon of transformative care for South Florida’s most vulnerable — foster children, aged-out foster youth, homeless young adults, single mothers with children and human trafficking survivors.

Through its bold “God’s Children. Our Future.” Campaign, the organization is expanding its infrastructure to meet growing needs, focusing on the West Palm Beach-based Sam & Connie Frankino KidSanctuary Campus.

This cornerstone campus is undergoing major expansion: four new triplexes of affordable transitional housing are being added to provide safe, stable and dignified homes for youth and families in crisis. These residences are more than buildings — they are launching pads for healing, education, employment and independence. Committed donors include The Gary & Vivienne Player Foundation, The Herrendorf Family Foundation, The Deitchman Family and The Frownfelter Family.

At the heart of this growth is a new wave of philanthropic leadership — visionary women shaping the future of giving. Leaders such as Christy Hamilton, Liz Wolcott, Kim Goodwin and Kim Younes are investing not only resources but also creativity and energy into a renewed culture of compassion.

Serving our greater community through Place of Hope means so much to me because their mission goes far beyond providing housing — they offer real hope and lasting change for foster children, single mothers and youth aging out of care,” said Hamilton. “This campaign is vital to ensuring that impact continues for generations to come, especially as we grow our West Palm Beach campus with new facilities and outreach programs. I’m thrilled to rally my friends and neighbors around a cause that keeps every dollar right here in our community, helping local families where we live, work and raise our children.”

The four women are co-chairing the inaugural Palm Beach Dinner on Jan. 22, 2026, at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, benefiting Place of Hope’s sister entity, Villages of Hope. The event will cast a compelling vision for youthful, engaged philanthropy and unite a new generation of changemakers.

“I have always been deeply committed to causes that support and uplift children,” said Goodwin. “I want every kid, especially those who have no one to turn to, to have a chance to thrive and build a brighter future. Supporting Place of Hope means so much to me because it provides hope, love and vital services to children in need — whether through foster care, education or prevention programs.”

“Place of Hope steps into the hardest moments for foster children and young adults,” added Younes. “This campaign matters because we’re expanding Place of Hope’s capacity right here at home — building more homes and apartments so more children and young adults have a safe, stable place to heal and grow. Every new door we open means more lives changed in our own backyard.

I had a strong call, after having my second child, to find a local organization that I could truly connect with. It was easy to feel an immediate pull to Place of Hope/Villages of Hope after learning about their values and services,” said Wolcott. “Helping local children and families is incredibly rewarding. More involvement in the community means more assistance and a better life for these children and families.”

The women’s mission is clear: to rally supporters who understand that human rights begin with access to safety, shelter and opportunity. Alongside the campaign, the Palm Beach Dinner will highlight stories of resilience, reveal future plans and invite others to join in stewarding the next generation.

“We are so grateful for the co-chairs of our inaugural Palm Beach dinner and the entire committee they have formed around them,” said Charles Bender, founding CEO and Place of Hope board member. “They are trailblazers for our West Palm Beach based KidSanctuary Campus, which is under expansion construction, providing some of the most desperately needed housing in our community.”

Place of Hope’s and Villages of Hope’s work is rooted in the belief that every child and family deserves dignity — a safe place to sleep, a supportive community and a path forward. The West Palm Beach expansion responds to the growing number of youths aging out of foster care without a safety net, single mothers facing homelessness and survivors of human trafficking with nowhere to turn. The new homes will provide transitional support, life skills training, counseling, targeted case management and wraparound services that empower residents to thrive.

"Place of Hope’s 'God’s Children. Our Future.' Campaign is helping to build more homes and apartments so more children and young adults have a safe, stable place to heal and grow. Every new door we open means more lives changed in our own backyard."

As the organization grows, so do opportunities for meaningful involvement. From naming opportunities on the new campus to volunteer engagement and strategic giving, Place of Hope and Villages of Hope invite philanthropists, executives and community leaders to join this unique mission of transformation.

Another Record-Breaking Light in The Shadows!

Whether you joined us in the room or were with us in spirit, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for your support of Place of Hope’s 3rd Annual Light in the Shadows Anti-Human Trafficking Luncheon.

For those who attended, your presence was more than a seat at a table—it was a bold act of solidarity with those who have endured unimaginable darkness through the horrors of human trafficking. Your participation helped raise critical funds and reaffirmed our shared commitment to ending and preventing this heinous crime in our communities.

To those who were unable to attend, we want you to know what your support made possible. The luncheon brought together community leaders, advocates, survivors, and partners to shine a powerful light into the shadows of exploitation. It was a moving afternoon filled with stories of resilience, messages of hope, and a united call to action.

On behalf of the children, youth, families, board members, and staff at Place of Hope—thank you. We are profoundly grateful to our extraordinary co-chairs, Jill Gallagher and Jordan Brown, along with our sponsors, committee members, and volunteers. Your time, talents, and generosity formed the foundation of this event’s success.

We also extend heartfelt appreciation to all of our performers, especially Rosevelt Rawls and Tuli Pauga, whose deeply emotional music brought a powerful and unforgettable dimension to the program.

We were honored to welcome Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier as our keynote guest. His presence and heartfelt remarks underscored the importance of standing together against exploitation and injustice. He spoke with conviction about protecting the vulnerable, upholding dignity, and ensuring every individual has the chance to live in safety. His message beautifully reflected Place of Hope’s core values and strengthened our shared resolve to restore lives and bring light to the darkest circumstances.

This year holds special meaning as we celebrate 25 years of Place of Hope’s mission. From the beginning, we said, “If we did all of this to save one life, it would be worth it.”

Thanks to you—and so many caring hearts like yours—we have impacted thousands.

Today, Place of Hope stands as a statewide leader in prevention, intervention, education, and recovery services, serving hundreds of children and young adults each year who have been sexually exploited, trafficked, or are at risk. Through trauma-informed therapy, safe and stable housing, affordable transitional housing, family-style foster care, life-skills development, and comprehensive case management, we are not just responding to a crisis— we are rewriting futures.

Together, we are bringing hope where there was once only despair.

If you would like to see your compassion in action, we warmly invite you to schedule a tour of one of our campuses or learn how to get involved with next year’s luncheon committee. Please contact Robin Friedman at Robinf@placeofhope.com.
