A Community of Support and Resilience:
Together, We Thrive
At Family Promise of Martin County, we believe in something bigger than just providing shelter. We believe in the strength of community, the power of compassion, and the extraordinary outcomes that happen when people unite around a shared purpose. Every family that walks through our doors is a reminder of why we do what we do: to end childhood homelessness and help families rebuild their lives. Over the last two months, we've been tested, inspired, and energized. Here's what we’ve been up to. |
Another Local Family Success Story:
Congratulations to Jonathon and his family of 6 for moving straight from shelter to their own 3/2 apartment in Port St. Lucie. This father and mother both work in Martin County and the children are all in Martin County schools, they are not looking forward to the travel back and forth, but are still most grateful for their ability to save for first, last and security while they were in our shelter rotation. Sometimes all a family needs is some support, budgeting help and a little respite from hotel bills or campsite costs to provide time to seek housing and save for the move. |
Join us this Saturday for our New Date for Our Bed Race: Let’s Make an Impact Together!
When life throws a curveball, we adapt. Due to Hurricane Milton, we’ve rescheduled our much-anticipated Bed Race event this Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 10 AM to 1 PM.
Why does this event matter? Because it's not just about racing beds down a street—it's about rallying together to build awareness and support for families facing homelessness. It’s about reminding our community that when we come together, we can turn obstacles into opportunities. We hope you’ll join us for a day of fun, creativity, and purpose! |
Successful Program Nights: Meeting Families Where They Are
We believe that addressing the needs of the families we serve is about understanding their unique challenges and helping them create solutions.
Key to our success is our Family Promise special programs geared toward the families we serve, from parenting through homelessness, homeownership classes, keys to good tenancy, career planning and interviewing skills, positive parenting, and more--we work hard to expand the knowledge and resources of every family we serve.
These past few months, our program nights have been a tremendous success, with targeted sessions focusing on:
- Financial literacy to help parents manage their resources more effectively.
- Job readiness workshops to empower families to find stable employment.
- Homeownership preparedness
- Mental health support to offer guidance and healing in times of emotional stress.
- Positive parenting and parenting through homelessness.
These nights are not just about education—they are about community, connection, and reminding families that they are not alone in their journey. When we give families the tools to succeed, we empower them to thrive.

THANKFUL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
A Heartfelt Thank You to Eagle Scouts Troop #823
At Family Promise, we believe that every act of kindness, no matter how small, can have a massive impact. This month, we had the privilege of witnessing that belief in action. Eagle Scouts Troop #823 came to our Family Center with energy and enthusiasm, sprucing up the space and giving it the refresh it needed.
Their work didn’t just improve the appearance of our Center—it reminded the families we serve that they are valued and that there are people in this community rooting for them. To the members of Troop #823, we are so grateful for your time, effort, and generosity. You embody what it means to serve others, and we couldn’t do this without people like you. |

We Are Mortgage Free!
There are moments in life that shift the course of your journey. For us, one of those moments happened this month. We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to an incredibly generous anonymous donor, Family Promise of Martin County is now mortgage free!
This means so much more than just financial freedom—it means we can invest more deeply into the programs and services that matter most to the families we serve. It allows us to focus on the future, expand our reach, and bring more stability and hope to those who need it most. To our anonymous donor, words cannot express our gratitude. Your generosity will leave a lasting impact for generations to come.

Expanding Our Almost Home Program: 6 More Housing Units!
With our vision to end homelessness, we understand that it’s not just about finding a temporary solution, but about building pathways to long-term stability. Thanks to the same anonymous donor, we’ve secured a master lease on 6 additional apartment units, expanding our Almost Home transitional housing program.
This expansion is life-changing for the families we serve. It means more families will have the chance to move from crisis to stability, gaining the security and support they need to rebuild their lives. Together, we are creating a future where no family has to face homelessness alone, and every child has a place to call home. |

Announcing Our Collaboration with Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council
We are excited to announce our new collaboration with the Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council. This partnership aligns with our commitment to tackling homelessness at its roots and ensuring that families have access to comprehensive support services.
By joining forces, we can more effectively coordinate resources, expand our reach, and provide even greater support to those in need. Together, we are creating a community where homelessness isn’t just reduced—it’s eradicated. |

What’s Next?
As we move into the final months of 2024, we are more determined than ever to keep pushing forward. We are a community united by purpose. Every act of kindness, every volunteer hour, every donation—it all adds up to something incredible.
Thank you for standing with us, believing in our mission, and being a part of something much bigger than any one of us alone. Together, we are building a future where no child in Martin County has to wonder where they will sleep at night.
See you at the Bed Race!
With gratitude and purpose,
Madeleine Bozone Greenwood, Executive Director |

DID YOU KNOW???
- 33% of families in Martin County are part of the ALICE population (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed). That means they are working full time but are only one emergency away from homelessness.
- Our average renter wage in Florida is $20 per hour, yet the wage needs to be $46.24 per hour for a single income earner with two children.
- 614 children in Martin County were registered in the school system 2022/2023 school year as homeless or living in unstable housing conditions. Also when factored in children under school age, and those whose families are fearful of registering their children for concern of retribution, and this number would increase dramatically.
- Average cost of childcare per child is $10,321 annually.
