October 2025

A Letter from our Executive Director
Dear Friends,

In Martin County, working parents—nurses, teachers, retail workers, dental techs, and more—are losing their homes despite holding full-time jobs, often more than one. The rising cost of living and stagnant wages have created an unsustainable reality where saving for the future is out of reach. I'm so pleased to share that we have now helped two of our families become first time homeowners, despite these challenges! We should be able to help more. You can help us.

At Family Promise, we’ve seen the heartbreak and resilience of these families firsthand. That’s why we launched the Voice of Promise program (see more below)—to help our community understand hidden homelessness and advocate for financially feasible housing and adequate wages. Nine of our families courageously shared their stories, written in their own words, to help shift the narrative and inspire change.

You can help by being their voice. Watch their beautifully curated stories read by local volunteers, share them, and stand with us in advocacy. Visit VoiceOfPromise.org to see the full collection. And join us on November 15th for our Bed Races—a fun, family-friendly event where you’ll see teams race beds, meet some of our families, and learn more about the impact we’re making together. Event details are in this newsletter. Thank you for being part of our Family Promise family and for helping us build a stronger, more compassionate Martin County.

Thank you for Being Our Voice,

Madeleine Bozone Greenwood
Executive Director

Bed Races is bigger and better than ever!

Get ready, Martin County! Our 6th Annual Bed Races are back and packed with more excitement than ever. This year, we’re adding a car show, welcoming new racing teams, and dreaming of a Kids Zone (additional sponsors still needed!). Plus, enjoy live entertainment, activities, and food trucks for a day of fun for the whole family.

Voice of Promise 2025: A Night to Remember!

What a powerful evening! Over 115 attendees joined us for the Voice of Promise, an event that truly opened hearts and minds. We were proud to partner with local nonprofits who share our mission, including LAHIA, Habitat for Humanity, Treasure Coast Homeless Services Council, and the Council on Aging.

The night covered a lot, shining a spotlight on the realities families face in Martin County. Highlights included the Dear Someone Project, captured by videographer Gus Cruz, which revealed the challenges of homelessness faced by working families with children right here in our community.
If you haven’t seen all of the moving videos yet, visit www.voiceofpromise.org, and grab a box of tissues! Trust us, you’re going to need them.

We also explored insights from Dan Pallotta’s Uncharitable—a must-watch documentary that challenges the way we think about charity and fundraising.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and helped amplify the voices of families in need. Together, we can BE THE VOICE! For more photos, visit our facebook page.
VOLUNTEER UPDATES & NEEDS
Each and every month, we take a moment to recognize the incredible volunteers who serve alongside us with such dedication and heart. This month, we’re sending our deepest thanks to:

Lisa Adams, Wes Johnston, Joe Flanagan, April Milner, Lynn Morgan, Fran Rheinberger, Jill Bennett, John and Wanda Fedorek, Lorna DuPlooy, Raul Calderon, and
Girl Scout Troop 31034

In September, our volunteers lent a hand with event planning, set-up/breakdown, fundraising efforts, setting, clean, and resetting our transitional housing units, moving into a storage unit, and other behind-the-scenes support. Every bit of help makes a difference, and we appreciate their time and contributions.
WANT TO HELP?
Please reach out to us if you can help with any of the below. Email volunteer@mcfamilypromise.org to get involved. We have lots of ways for you to support our mission.
Each year, we raise funds to give our shelter families a true holiday experience. During Thanksgiving and Christmas, we provide them with a comfortable hotel stay — a chance to rest, feel safe, and enjoy the season without the stress of daily transitions or trips to the family center for basic needs.

Your donation helps make this possible, covering the cost of a week’s stay in November and two weeks over Christmas. Together, we can make the holidays feel like home for families working toward brighter days.

Our goal at Family Promise of Martin County is to help children and their families experiencing homelessness transition to a home of their own. In order to help maintain housing stability, we provide shelter, meals, transportation, case management, financial training, and education through a network of congregations, volunteers, and donations.
