Our Dollars, Our District: Half-Mill Property Tax Renewal to Appear on Voters' Ballots in November

When voters head to the polls this November, they can choose to continue supporting Martin County public schools by renewing the existing millage referendum. If approved, the renewal would go into effect in 2026 after the current referendum expires in 2025.

Funding from the millage referendum is spread across five essential areas: school safety and security, mental health programs, recruitment and retention of highly-qualified teachers and support staff, professional development and academic initiatives.

Martin County public school students benefit from 100% of the dollars generated by the referendum, which currently amounts to approximately $900 per student.

Since 2018, the District's Millage Oversight Committee, comprised of Martin County community members, has carefully monitored the spending of millage funds to ensure complete alignment with what was promised to voters.

The District recently received the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 18th consecutive year, highlighting our commitment to fiscal accountability and transparency.

Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) programming is made possible via millage funding. AVID is an academic support program that prepares students for college eligibility and postsecondary success.

The safety of students and staff is the District's top priority. Funds generated by the existing referendum fund additional Martin County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers (SROs) and school safety personnel.

Millage referendum dollars fund numerous mental health and wellness programs for our students and the salaries of many key professionals, including guidance counselors and prevention intervention program specialists.

Millage funding provides annual salary stipends for our faculty and support staff, positioning the District to remain competitive with larger neighboring school systems. In September 2024, eligible employees earned millage-funded stipends ranging from $700-$10,050, depending on their bargaining unit and years of experience.
