Chautauqua South Returns: A Celebration of Arts, Education, and Culture

STUART, Fla. (December 20) – The Martin County Library System (MCLS) is proud to announce the return of its annual Chautauqua South series, running from January through April 2025. This beloved tradition offers an eclectic lineup of artists, authors, historians, educators, and musicians.

The Chautauqua movement began in 1874 as open-air classrooms on the shores of Chautauqua Lake in New York and grew into a nationwide phenomenon. Inspired by the renowned Chautauqua Institution, MCLS launched its own version in 1992. What started as a single month of programming has expanded to a four-month celebration, staying true to the original Chautauqua spirit of “popular education combined with entertainment.”

Chautauqua South offers something for everyone, with culturally rich and engaging programs designed to inspire the mind, body, and spirit. These free events are sponsored by the Friends of the Martin County Library System, Inc.

For a complete schedule, view the 2025 Chautauqua South At-a-Glance Calendar on the library’s website. Visit www.library.martin.fl.us or call 772-288-5702 for more information about these and other library events.
