Reminder: Rep. Toby Overdorf - January Newsletter

Dear Friends,

What an incredible start to the 2026 Legislative Session. It feels amazing to be back in Tallahassee, boots on the ground, kicking off the year fighting for and advocating on behalf of legislation that can shape our future for generations to come.

I am truly honored and grateful to be serving my eighth and final term in the Florida House of Representatives. This moment is made possible by all of you—your support, encouragement, door knocking, conversations, and word-of-mouth along the way. I carry immense gratitude in my heart for the countless ways you have helped get me here.

One of the major highlights as we head into this year is the opportunity to serve as Chair of the Property Tax Committee. This role allows us to have important, thoughtful conversations around affordability, homeownership, and long-term fiscal responsibility—issues that directly impact families and communities across our state.

As we begin this legislative session, I’m excited to get to work and keep you informed every step of the way. Please be on the lookout for weekly updates as we move through session and work together to make meaningful progress for our community.

Here’s to 2026—and to making it our best year yet. Cheers!

This week was filled with exciting and productive gatherings alongside the Governor, members of the Florida House and Senate, lobbyists, and community leaders. It was a jam-packed week of meaningful meetings and events, all focused on collaboration and progress. Please enjoy a few highlights and snapshots from the week.
Kicking off the first day of the voting session with Tech Day at the Capitol! This talk from Florida Technology Council was very insightful on how to bridge the gaps between our growing tech sector and the challenges with keeping pace with AI and IT project failures.
I was honored to be invited to speak at the Palm Beach County Forum. I am passionate about the affordability for not just us here in Martin and St. Lucie County, but for all of the hardworking South Floridians that are facing the same housing insecurities. With a focus on eliminating non-school homestead property taxes, improving or expanding homestead exemptions, and capping tax increases, we can end the property tax burdens that are straining the quality of life in our sunshine state.
Right after the PBC Forum, I took a trip down to FDOC Day at the Capitol, where I met with Florida’s Police Benevolent Association, to listen to the systematic concerns of our law enforcement teams and incarcerated groups.
Every year this special group gets bigger and bigger. It's always a pleasure meeting with Palm Beach North’s Chamber of Commerce!
I had wonderful meetings with Palm Beach County RPOF and St. Lucie County Fire Chiefs. We thank you all for your service.
This Thursday, Nursing Bill HB121 had an overwhelming amount of support. I’m proud to be leading a movement that will push Florida to achieve a higher pass rate, cut through fraudulent programs, and alleviate the registered nurses who are overworked due to this shortage.
Check out this feature I published in the opening day newsletter.
A great way to stay informed and follow along throughout the session is by visiting the Florida House website. There, you can track bills, watch committee and floor session videos, and access a variety of helpful resources and updates.

Prior to kicking off this week, I had a very full schedule. I was honored to speak with the Republican Women of Sarasota about property taxes and the work we’ve been doing in that space. I also had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch for the Treasure Coast Senior Softball Association, and attended the Republican Party of Florida event in Orlando.
Addressing the annual meeting of the RPOF on current political issues as well as expanding our energy supply.
As always, thank you for your continued support and faith in my leadership! I look forward to sharing with you again soon.

Sincerely,

Rep. Toby Overdorf
