Week In Review: Hitting the Ground Running

This week was a big one in Washington as the 119th Congress was sworn in and the Republican majority got right to work.

We considered two pieces of legislation on the House Floor. First up was the Laken Riley Act, named for the 22-year-old nursing student who was tragically murdered last year by an illegal immigrant. There’s a reason that this was the first bill that the Republican House voted on: dealing with illegal immigration and securing the border is a top priority. Keeping Americans safe is a top priority.

The second bill on the Floor was one that I cosponsored as the Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act sanctions the so-called International Criminal Court for issuing arrest warrants against American allies, like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This bill also sends an important message: the days of bullying America and our friends are over.
