Stuart, FL – The Martin County School District is proud to announce it is currently tied for the fourth-highest kindergarten readiness scores in the state of Florida, according to newly released data from the Florida Department of Education.
The results highlight the District’s strong commitment to early learning and reflect continued improvement among its youngest students. Martin County kindergartners surpassed the statewide readiness average of 44 percent, increasing from 48 percent in 2024 to 52 percent in 2025, placing the District among Florida’s top-performing school systems.
Florida law requires all kindergarten students to complete a readiness screening within the first 30 days of school. The FAST Star Early Literacy assessment serves as the statewide measure to ensure students begin kindergarten with essential foundational skills for academic success.
While the assessment is administered in kindergarten, the results reflect the learning foundation students bring with them into the classroom. High-quality Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) programs play a critical role in building early literacy and learning skills, which are further strengthened through intentional instruction in Martin County School District kindergarten classrooms.
“Kindergarten is a critical milestone in a child’s educational journey, and these results show our students are starting strong,” said Superintendent Michael Maine. “Being ranked among the top districts in the state reflects the dedication of our educators, the strength of our early learning programs, and the support of our families.”
Enrollment is now open for VPK and Kindergarten for the 2026–2027 school year. Families are also invited to attend the District’s Kindergarten Kick-Off on February 4, where they can learn more about school programs, meet teachers, and gain helpful information to prepare their children for a successful start to school.
