About Us

Chapman School of Seamanship is a world-renowned 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Maritime School encompassing nine waterfront acres in Stuart, FL. Since opening our doors in 1971, we have trained over 30,000 students with our “Learn at the Helm” hands-on approach. Offering a wide variety of programs for recreational boaters, youth boaters, and individuals wishing to pursue careers in the marine industry, Chapman provides comprehensive training for all.

Founded by the late Charles F. Chapman and the late Glen D. Castle, the Chapman School maintains a large fleet of power vessels to teach practical, underway boating skills. These vessels, all contributed through the school's Boat Donation Program, benefit our students, who receive hands-on training, and our donors, who support maritime education.
