Tax Reform Fuels Growth, but Tariffs Remain a Challenge
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act will drive investments in innovation and workers.
This week, the U.S. Chamber applauded the successful passage of tax reform and looked ahead to the continued challenges businesses of all sizes face due to tariffs.

Why it matters: Permanent, pro-growth tax policy in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will enable businesses to invest in innovation and workers, which strengthens communities. But at the same time, tariffs increase costs and disrupt supply chains.

Pro-growth tax policy supports local communities: Tax reform will drive innovation during a time of technological change, said U.S. Chamber Executive Vice President Neil Bradley on Wednesday: “We're talking a lot about what artificial intelligence, combined with robotics, can actually do to improve efficiency. Those things cost money, and it's going to require retrofits and new ways of doing things.
  • “Reducing the after-tax costs of those investments is going to make those easier. It's going to lead to more investment, and that's what's really going to spur growth.”

Tariff troubles: While tax reform will give businesses some certainty, tariffs remain a headwind. U.S. Chamber President and CEO Suzanne P. Clark talked to Liz Claman on Fox Business Network Monday about how tariffs create difficulties for businesses in their day-to-day operations and investing in future growth.

  • “If you're a small business, you have no idea if you have the cash flow to pay for the cargo that could be on the ocean,” Clark said. “If you're a big business, you have no idea how to make a plan.”

What we’re doing: Clark urged quick work on trade deals that will open markets and support American companies and workers.

  • And: The U.S. Chamber is calling for automatic tariff exclusions for small businesses and for products that can't be manufactured in the U.S. or that jeopardize American jobs.

Bottom line: “We have to stop the uncertainty and the back and forth of tariffs as a tactic,” Clark said.
