Comfortably Uncomfortable

There is no growth when we are comfortable. We often share with parents entering our program they will be “comfortably uncomfortable” here. Our programs are a bit of a bootcamp, but when families come through it they are ever better prepared for a future many families once thought not possible. Parents are stretched, learning how to budget in ways they’ve not done before—requiring a great deal of discipline and consistency setting and achieving goals. Also, being fully transparent on income and expenses will feel intrusive.

It takes a big commitment for a family to qualify to become a Family Promise family and work their way back to independence and long-term stability. It is our goal that the healthy habits and life lessons learned with us will create a future where they never experience the loss of their home or stability again.

From time to time we have parents that refuse to work—while it is not common, it is one of the main reasons a family is not eligible for our program. Still, we try our best to work with every family—eligible for our programs or not—to help them navigate to a place that is a better fit for them, or to qualify for special housing if they have a unique situation.

First— we serve parents with children in Martin County. Parents must be working in Martin County or must have had a stable job in Martin County and are willing to work full-time, with stable income. For dual parent households we require both parents to be working and maintaining that employment. If not, there is no way for us to move a family along to independence.

Second— parents may not have a violent or predatory criminal record and must be free from drug or alcohol dependency. If parent/parents are in recovery they must have been sober for a minimum of 6 months prior and must be working with a sponsor consistently.

Third— children must be in martin county school, after school care and/or day care (we help parents qualify for affordable childcare if they do not already have it).

Fourth— parents must work with their case coach to meet and/or exceed all established goals and timelines, share their finances, proof of income/check-stubs and bank balances.

Fifth— parents must be good stewards of their space, almost home transitional housing units and/or shelter.

We are proud to walk alongside each family as they overcome hurdles and challenges one at a time, growing and strengthening every step of the way. We have an 88% success rate of families remaining housed after exiting our program. We follow-up with families for a minimum of two years after they exit one of our programs, and some remain in touch to this day. Forever our family!

Young Professionals Joined Us for a Thankful Evening

We recently welcomed the Young Professionals of Martin County for a Thankful Evening filled with meaningful conversations, laughter, learning, and connection.

Together, we shared stories, built understanding, and discussed the realities many families in our community face. These open and honest conversations help break down barriers and create greater awareness of Family Promise's mission.

We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with YPMC and look forward to future collaborations as they continue helping us spread awareness and advocate for families in Martin County.

Summer Kickoff

The first week of June we took a break from our regularly scheduled monthly educational programming to kick off summer the best way we know how: TOGETHER!

A special thank you to the Stuart Police Department for grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for our families, and to the Martin County Fire Department for spending time with our children and bringing a fire truck that quickly became a crowd favorite.

Families enjoyed popsicles, music from DJ Washer, and a bounce house generously provided by GDP Bounce. Thanks to a generous donor, each child also received a book to encourage a love of reading throughout the summer, and every family was gifted passes to Sailfish Splash Waterpark for even more summer fun.

Events like these remind us that building stability for families goes beyond meeting basic needs—it’s also about creating opportunities for joy, and memories. We are grateful to all of our community partners and supporters who helped make this special day possible.
