Flagler Park Art Newest Addition to "The Sanitation Art Gallery"

We are excited to unveil the latest addition to the City's Sanitation Public Works of Art--a colorful watercolor mural on wheels by local artist Donald MacIntosh.
This vibrant new piece captures the beauty and the spirit of Flagler Park festivals, turning our sanitation fleet into a moving celebration of community, color and creativity.
Part of our Public Works of Art initiative, this traveling mural reflects the heart of Stuart--where keeping our city clean and beautiful is a true collaboration between residents and our dedicated sanitation team.
Currently, Don’s art—the Stuart Feed Store, Haney Circle, a medley of the City of Stuart Water Tower, Memorial Park and Sailfish Circle, Guy Davis Park, Francis Adams Park, and Shephard Park—is on seven sanitation trucks. One more watercolor will be installed this year. All trucks have a rendering on the opposite side of the truck of the Stuart RiverWalk with the message: “Pitch In, Keep Stuart Beautiful.”
Thank you Donald MacIntosh for capturing the vibrancy of the City of Stuart and providing watercolors that are enjoyed by thousands as city sanitation trucks roll throughout the city!

Stuart Police Department Update

Safeguarding Our Children in the Digital Age

The Stuart Police Department has taken a significant step in protecting children from online predators by officially joining the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force. This national initiative is dedicated to identifying, investigating, and prosecuting individuals involved in child exploitation through the internet.
As part of their commitment to this mission, several Stuart Police officers recently completed intensive training hosted by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. The program focused on enhancing officers’ ability to recognize, track, and respond to the growing number of internet-based crimes targeting minors.
“This training gives our officers the tools and techniques needed to stay ahead of those who use technology to exploit children,” said Chief Joseph Tumminelli. “By joining ICAC, we’re strengthening our local capabilities with the support of a national network.”
The ICAC task force is a collaborative effort among federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Participation gives departments like Stuart PD access to shared intelligence, resources, and the latest technology to investigate cybercrimes involving children.
As digital threats continue to evolve, Stuart PD’s involvement in ICAC reinforces their dedication to safeguarding the most vulnerable members of the community. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious online activity and to speak openly with children about internet safety.
For more information or to report a concern, contact the Stuart Police Department or visit the ICAC Task Force website.

Fertilizing 101: Protect Florida's Water & Grow a Healthy Lawn

If your lawn or landscape could benefit from fertilizing, now’s the time to do it—before summer rains return and local fertilizer restrictions begin June 1 and run through November 30. Blackout periods during the rainy season help protect nearby waterbodies from fertilizer runoff. Fortunately, April and May are typically ideal months to fertilize if needed.
But don’t guess, test your soil first. A soil test can tell you exactly what your yard needs and help you avoid over-fertilizing. Soil tests can be performed through your local county Extension office, which provides expert guidance and affordable testing services.
Water Wisely After Fertilizing
Did you know that you only need to apply ¼ inch of water after fertilizing your lawn? That’s all it takes for nutrients to reach your grass’s roots. Watering more than that can cause runoff, washing away fertilizer before it’s absorbed, and that wasted fertilizer can harm local springs, rivers, lakes and bays
Protect Our Waterways
Fertilizing the right way at the right time helps keep excess nutrients out of our environment. Use a slow- or controlled-release fertilizer and always follow the instructions on the label.
Want to Learn More? Visit the Fertilize Appropriately section on the UF|IFAS Florida-Friendly Landscaping website: https://ffl.ifas.ufl.edu
Let’s work together to protect Florida’s water resources. Fertilize Smart. Protect Our Waterways.

Drowning Prevention Tips from Department of Health

May is National Water Safety Month and the Florida Department of Health in Martin County offers the following tips to help residents and visitor enjoy our area's waterways, beaches and pools safely.
Water Safety Tips
• Always keep your eyes on children in and around water, including pools and open bodies of water. Actively supervising and giving children your undivided attention when they are in or around water can help prevent drownings.
Never leave a child alone around water.
• If your child is missing, check other pools or surrounding bodies of water.
• Use barriers around water, including fences, self-closing/self-latching gates, and secure doors with alarms. Barriers help prevent young children from wandering into bodies of water, including lakes, pools, ponds, and more.
• Have a phone nearby in case you need to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
• Open cuts or wounds should not be immersed in water; if there's bacteria in the water, it can enter the body through a cut or wound.
• If a cut or wound happens when in the water, it should be washed with clean, running water and soap and covered with a clean, dry waterproof bandage.
Beach and Lake Swimming
Swimming in open water is different than swimming in a pool. Even the strongest swimmer can get into trouble swimming in open water. Here are some tips for swimming at the beach or lake:
Swim It: Always swim with a buddy, and when safety flags and signs give it the all-clear to do so.
Shore It: If you have a weakened immune system, a cut on your skin, or don’t have a buddy to swim with, stay on dry land.
Dodge It: If you encounter animals that live near or in the water, stay away. Also, do not drink, swim, wade, use personal watercrafts, or come into contact with waters where there are visible algal blooms like red tide and blue-green algae. For current information on red tide or blue-green algae, please visit Protecting Florida Together or the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Algal Bloom Dashboard.
