| U.S. LNG Is a Lifeline for Europe's Energy Security |
| American natural gas is breaking Russia's grip on Europe—and creating opportunity here at home. |
U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) plays a pivotal role in securing Europe's energy future, Dan Byers, Vice President for Policy at the U.S. Chamber's Global Energy Institute, told the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on Wednesday.
Why it matters: "U.S. LNG's role as a guarantor of global energy security is accompanied by remarkable economic benefits here in America," said Byers.
Be smart:
- U.S. LNG provides a cleaner, more reliable energy source for European allies, reducing dependence on Russian energy while supporting economic growth and emissions reductions.
- Increased U.S. LNG exports after the invasion of Ukraine "neutralized Russia's attempt to weaponize natural gas for geopolitical gain and confirmed U.S. LNG's immeasurable importance to America's national security," said Byers.
- Last week, Europe passed a new law banning all imports of Russian gas by the end of 2027. This coincides with a wave of new U.S. LNG projects that will help Europe achieve long-term energy security and end billions in payments that fund the Kremlin's war machine.
What's next: Byers emphasized the need for targeted policy measures, including regulatory reforms and transatlantic cooperation, to unlock the full potential of U.S. LNG—supporting American jobs, economic growth, and Europe’s energy security. |
