New Commissioners Sworn In


Newly elected and re-elected City Commissioners--Christopher Collins, Commissioner Group III, Campbell Rich, Commissioner Group 1, and Eula Clarke, Commissioner Group V, respectively---took their oath of office at the beginning of the regular City Commission meeting on Monday, Sept. 12.

Judge Michael McNicholas officiated the swearing-in ceremonies.

City Chambers were filled with family and friends of the Commissioners.

Windemere, The Pines and Bahama Terrace Neighborhood Cleanup a Success!


The communities of Windemere, The Pines, and Bahama Terrace took advantage of the September Neighborhood Cleanup this past Saturday, Sept. 10. 

City of Stuart sanitation trucks collected bulk items at the curb and residents dropped off household hazardous waste to the Martin County HazMobile for disposal. This year lots of paint, household chemicals, pesticides, and light bulbs were dropped off for proper disposal. 

The next Neighborhood Cleanup will occur in November (date to be determined) and will be for the East Riverside neighborhood.

Road and Facility Closure banner  

Central Parkway Lane Closures continue through Sept. 23, 2022

 
Temporary lane closures on the north and south sides of S.E. Central Parkway in the vicinity of 410 S.E. Central Parkway, Stuart, FL 34994 continue and end Friday, Sept. 23, 2022., due to construction.

Traffic is being diverted from one side of Central Parkway to the other side to create a two-lane road from 7 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

East Ocean Boulevard West Bound Lane Closure Sept. 17 - 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. 


The East Ocean Blvd. west bound lane from Florida Ave. to Georgia Ave. will be closed from Florida Ave. to Georgia Ave. for repairs to the raised crosswalk. Questions may be directed to (772) 288-5398.

Monday, Sept. 12 Regular Commission Meeting Highlights


City of Stuart Commission meetings are conducted in the City Hall Chambers and are streamed live. (View live HERE or video recording HERE). City Hall Chambers are open to the public during the meetings. 

Summary of Action Items / Presentations


The United States flag was presented by the Stuart Police and Stuart Fire Department Color Guard. Proceeding the Pledge of Allegiance, Alexa Soriano sang the National Anthem, which was followed by the Oath of Office presided over by Judge McNicholas. 

The following Proclamations were issued:

(1) Hunger Action Month - September 2022
(2) Constitution Week = September 17-23, 2022
(3) Suicide Prevention Awareness Month - September 2022
(4) Suicide Prevention Awareness Month (2-1-1 Helpline) - September 17-23, 2022
(4) Declaring Martin Beautiful International Coastal Cleanup Day in Stuart, Fla. - September 17, 2022

Presentations included:
  1. Volunteers in Medicine - Presentation by Kimberly Ouellette, MSW and Lisa Baxter.
  2. City Grants Overview - Funds Applied For and Received - Presentation by City of Stuart Grants Administrator Jacqui May
  3. Update on 3172 South Kanner Highway by City Attorney Michael Mortell
  4. Update on SW Osceola Street Phase 2 Undergrounding by City of Stuart CRA Executive Director Pinal Gandi-Savdas
  5. Plaque presentation by Commissioner Eula Clarke in appreciation for involvement in Emancipation Day Event held on May 20, 2021 to Bobbie Scott, Thelma Washington, Brenda Miller-Matheny, and Lisa Matheny.
Commission Action Items:
  1. Tentative Millage Rate of 5.000% for FY 2023 - Approved 5/0 
  2. Fire Assessment for FY 2023 - No rate increase - Approved 5/0
  3. Tentative Budgets for FY 2023 - Approved 5/0
  4. South Florida Pain Management LLC Conditional Use - approved 4/1 (Commissioner Christopher Collins dissenting)
NOTE: The final Public Hearing to approve the Tentative 2023 Millage Rate and Tentative 2023 Budgets is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 26 at 5:15 p.m.
