August 1 is National Girlfriends’ Day, which is the theme of this year’s Pup Crawl.
“We are encouraging our guests to come to our kickoff dressed in a girlfriend’s theme, which may resemble characters from Golden Girls, First Wives Club, Lucy & Ethel, Hocus Pocus, Thelma & Louise, Kim & Pete or Jenn & Ben,” said HSTC Communications Manager Sarah Fisher. “You get the idea!”
Guests wearing a costume also are encouraged to participate in a photo contest for their chance to win sponsored gift baskets for first and second places. To participate, guests will take their photo at one of the Pup Crawl sponsored locations and post to their social media pages with the tag, @humanesocietytc or @hstcadopt, location, and hashtag, #hstcPupCrawl. The photo with the most “likes” by Aug. 31 at midnight wins. The winner will be notified via email. Only paid Pup Crawl participants may enter the contest.
The Pup Crawl is open to anyone 21 or older, and the humane society encourages participants to bring Fido along to the pet-friendly establishments, too. The event is dog-friendly but all dogs must be kept on a non-retractable leash and the owner must make sure the dog is properly being cared for at all times. The humane society stresses the importance of pet owners being able to recognize the signs of heat exhaustion, aggressive behavior, overstimulation and other problematic areas as pets’ health is in the organization’s best interest.
