THE LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUND AMENDMENT ACT

Joseph -
Florida’s waterways are often unsafe due to toxic algal blooms, limiting recreation and threatening public health. Yet, the Land and Water Conservation Fund, created nearly 60 years ago to protect natural treasures and expand recreation, does not currently fund water quality projects, like those here in Florida.

That’s why I introduced the Land and Water Conservation Fund Amendment Act—to make water quality projects eligible for these grants. Florida taxpayers contribute to this fund, so we should be able to use it to protect our environment and improve outdoor recreation.

The LWCF was established to conserve land and promote recreation, awarding grants nationwide for projects that meet these goals. Expanding eligibility would allow funding for critical projects like:

Stormwater system rehab – Sewall’s Point (Martin County)
4,500 septic-to-sewer conversions – Martin County
Discharge control structure for the E-8 canal – St. Lucie County
Howard Creek Stormwater Treatment Area construction – St. Lucie County

This bill provides another tool in our fight for clean water and ensures that a program designed to protect land and water can also enhance recreation opportunities in Florida. You can read more about it here:
