Safe Space is on the Ball Raising Awareness of Domestic Violence

It was a homerun for domestic violence awareness as SafeSpace continued their efforts to save and change lives on the Treasure Coast by participating in “Safe at Home” night. The St. Lucie Mets hosted this fun evening and led their team to victory against the Hammerheads on September 1, 2022.

Not only did the Mets celebrate a win, but Safe Space also celebrated as they raised awareness and funds for domestic violence victims and their children through ticket sales, drawings, and donations. Charlotte Anderson-Brown, SafeSpace Director of Operations, started the game off with the ceremonial first pitch while Board members stood on the field holding banners and wearing t-shirts representing SafeSpace. Cheers rang out all over the stands at Clover stadium as the game began.

“Thanks to the St. Lucie Mets, and especially their Assistant General Manager Kasey Blair, SafeSpace was able to share information about the difficult subject of domestic violence  with baseball fans at the stadium and raise over $1,000 to fund our programs,” says SafeSpace CEO Teresa Albizu.

Safe Space is the only state certified domestic violence organization serving Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie Counties. It not only offers an emergency hotline and two shelters, it also provides services including mental health counseling, safety planning, legal assistance, financial literacy training, children’s protective services and youth prevention education programs.
