December 20, 2018
Saturday, December 22 is the perfect day to escape the hustle and bustle of the holidays and howl at the moon! This beautiful stroll through Delaplane Preserve at twilight will offer families the opportunity to witness both the sunset and the full moon rise, just minutes apart.

Beginning at 5 p.m., the full moon walk will cover a 1/4-mile trail through Delaplane Preserve, a 51-acre nature preserve along the south fork of the St. Lucie River. Environmental educator Joyce E. Thomasson will captivate hikers of all ages with this fun and educational walk. Enhancing the educational component, each school-age hiker will receive a passport to document items of interest, including native flora and fauna and fascinating facts about conservation efforts in Martin County.

Delaplane Preserve is home to native plant communities and wetlands as well as the gopher tortoise, a threatened species in Florida. Located at 6084 SW Gaines Ave. in Stuart, hikers can access Delaplane Preserve from Gaines Ave. and SW Linden St.  Weaving together history, environmental education and fun, this walk will appeal to hikers of all ages. Participants should bring water, insect repellent and a flashlight, and wear closed-toe shoes. Registration is not required. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
