CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS
Under the general supervision of the Team Leader II, utilizes a variety of tools and specialized equipment to perform routine manual work. Requires operation of sanitation and similar equipment. Routine tasks are performed with considerable independence and sound exercise of judgment and are subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring screening for illegal substance and alcohol use.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Loads vegetation, trash and operates the controls on back of the sanitation truck, forklift, and other hand and power tools used in Sanitation. 2. Maintains inside and outside of City Sanitation yard and facility (e.g., cleaning, gathering loose trash, etc.). 3. Cleans garbage carts, dumpsters, sanitation trucks and wash down area. 4. Performs general maintenance in office including cleaning, moving furniture, and changing light bulbs. NOTE: The examples of essential functions as listed in this classification specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function of work does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.REQUIREMENTS
A. Training and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience in general manual work preferred, including the operation of hand tools, hydraulics, and other related sanitation equipment. Training will be provided.
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License. B. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of basic techniques and procedures used in sanitation. Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices. Ability to operate equipment in a safe manner. Ability to operate equipment under a variety of conditions. Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions. C. Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the regular and at times sustained performance of heavy physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, stretching, and working in confined spaces, lifting, pushing, pulling moderate (50 pounds) to heavy (100+ pounds) items. Task involves the frequent use of coordinative and manipulative skills in performing a variety of tasks with the full range of eye-hand and power tools and shop equipment. D. Environmental Requirements: Task requires that work be performed in adverse environmental conditions. E. Sensory Requirements: Task requires color perception and discrimination. Task requires sound perception and discrimination. Task requires odor perception and  discrimination. Task requires depth perception and discrimination. Task requires texture perception and discrimination. Task requires visual perception and discrimination. Task requires oral communications ability.
