Groundskeeper Specialist - Turf & Grounds

Characteristics of the Class

Under the supervision of the Team Leader III, performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance and upkeep of ballfields, grounds, and parks using a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment. The incumbent receives assignments from the supervisor who indicates generally the work to be done, limitations, quality and quantity expected, and deadlines and priority of assignments.

Illustrative Duties (the following are highlights; please contact Human Resources for a detailed job description)

Maintains athletic turf and clay surfaces on ball fields. Prepares and keepsfields ready for athletic use. Completes daily inspection and cleanup of parksand facilities.

Prepares fields for practices and games.

Maintains and repairs facilities and overall area to include playgrounds, parkbuildings and structures such as restrooms.

Operates standard commercial and turf landscape equipment including butnot limited to mowers, power rake, spray rig, sod cutter, line painter, rollerand small gas powered tools.


Mows, places sod; rakes clay and warning tracks, replenishes clay, trims hedges; edges; cleans restrooms; picks up trash and litter.

Minimum Qualifications and Education/Licenses and Certifications

High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented with two (2) years related experience in athletic field or landscape maintenance and repair, including the operation of mowers and equipment. Basic computer skills required, including Word and some Excel. Understanding of baseball and soccer preferred.

Must possess a valid State of Florida driver license.

Essential Physical Skills and Environmental Conditions

Task involves the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, stooping, working in confined spaces, stretching, reaching and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (25-50 pound) items and occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or over) items; Tasks involve the frequent use of eye hand coordination and manipulative skills in performing a variety of tasks with the full range of hand and power tools and shop equipment; or the skilled and complex operation of heavy equipment calling for adherence to exacting standards of depth, grade, dimensions, and contours. Task requires that work be performed in adverse environmental conditions. Task requires sound, visual, color, depth and texture perception and discrimination. Task requires oral and written communications ability.
