Job Description

AUDIT STAFF ACCOUNTANT
The staff accountant in audit is responsible for segments of financial statement engagements and/or projects under the supervision of more experienced team members. The ideal candidate is proactive, team-oriented, and works well in a fast-paced environment. The individual also possesses the knowledge sufficient for guiding other associates and the communication skills needed to interact intelligently and professionally with all levels of client personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FOR AUDIT STAFF ACCOUNTANT

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statement and footnotes
  • Obtain an understanding of the client’s business, industry, system cycles, and account balances within the scope of specifically assigned tasks
  • Become familiar with pronouncements of the FASB, AICPA, GAO, GASB, and PCAOB where applicable
  • Perform substantive and analytical auditing procedures in assigned areas
  • Prepare working papers that adequately document the tests and procedures used to substantiate conclusions
  • Be aware of the proper and consistent application of accounting principles in performing audit procedures
  • Identify and document control deficiencies or other matters that warrant the attention of management
  • Manage time within budget limits and provide real-time feedback to the immediate supervisor
  • Understand the AICPA’s rules, regulations, and code of professional conduct
  • Exhibit skills and characteristics delineated in the firm’s evaluation forms

TAX STAFF ACCOUNTANT

The staff account in tax is responsible for preparing tax returns under the supervision of more experienced team members. The ideal candidate is proactive, team-oriented, and works well in a fast-paced environment. The individual also possesses the knowledge sufficient for guiding other associates and the communication skills needed to interact intelligently and professionally with all levels of client personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FOR TAX STAFF ACCOUNTANT

  • Complete individual, corporate, fiduciary, and partnership tax returns of varying complexities under supervision
  • Perform services within budgeted time by developing technical, time management, and organizational skills
  • Become familiar with pertinent IRC sections and regulations
  • Understand the AICPA’s rules, regulations, and code of professional conduct
  • Become knowledgeable about the computer software used in the tax department
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and year-end estimates
  • Draft response letters to IRS and state notices when needed
  • Exhibit skills and characteristics delineated in the firm’s evaluation forms
  • Make adjusting entries and complete a trial balance to prepare business returns
  • Perform accounting and bookkeeping functions when needed
  • Provide excellent client service by quickly producing quality work and providing attentive service
  • Obtain a working knowledge of research techniques and the research sources available in the firm’s library
  • Participate in training courses to help develop technical training skills
  • Develop solid work relationships with administrative personnel, peers, and supervisors to foster teamwork
  • Assist supervisors and managers with special projects when needed

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; master’s degree in taxation preferred
  • Met all requirements to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam
  • Active pursuit of CPA certification; CPA certification preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
