Enjoy a serving of savory soup from one of several area restaurants and select a beautiful hand-crafted bowl in exchange for a $20 donation, which benefits Treasure Coast Food Bank and Mary's Kitchen. Restaurants providing soup for this year’s Lundin Kudo Empty Bowls event are: Chef’s Table of Stuart, Conchy Joe’s Seafood, Dolphin Bar & Shrimp House, East Ocean Bistro, Ground Floor Farm, Kazu, Mary’s Tiki Grill & Cafe, Osceola Street Café, and The Gafford. Publix Super Markets will supply fresh bread to accompany each serving.
While these restaurants’ soups make a hearty meal, the Empty Bowls Project raises awareness that 1 in 6 people on the Treasure Coast are food-insecure, uncertain where their next meal will come from. Since its inception in 2006, The Lundin Kudo Empty Bowls Project has raised more than $72,000 for food-insecure individuals in Martin County. This year’s committee members are: Diane Ayres, Rabe Cogsil, Petey Cox, Joan Hooks, Mia Lindberg, Georgia Malone, Gail McCarthy, Cheryl Ritland, Carolyn Smith, and Leona Zegar.
Hundreds of bowls are created for the event from Clay Habit Studio, Lighthouse ArtCenter Gallery and School of Art, Gail McCarthy Studio, Stuart Ceramics Painting Studio, Pottery of Carlee Weston & Friends, and Pottery by Alex.
In addition to the bowls created by noted local potters and painters, the Mae Slaton silent auction features "souper" bowls created by well-known clay artists. The auction provides an additional opportunity to help feed hungry people in Martin County through bids on the pieces made especially for Empty Bowls.
