Members, I hope you, your family and guests will join us for our Second Annual Cape Eleuthera Flotilla and Fishing Tournament scheduled for April 9th through April 15th at Cape Eleuthera at the Southern End of Eleuthera Island. Last year we had about 80 members and guests attend and at the Awards Dinner everyone voted to make this one of the Club’s annual tournaments. If you are not familiar with Cape Eleuthera it is located at the South end of Eleuthera about 25 miles South of Rock Sound and 58 miles South East of Nassau. The total run from Stuart to Powell Point is about 250 miles, 200 miles to Nassau and then a short 58 miles to the Cape. The Cape is owned by the Devos Family (Owners of Amway) and is just beautiful and a proven fishing and diving dream. You can check it out at www.capeeleuthera.com. The resort has a protected deep water marina and can handle vessels up to 200’. The marina is about 12 to 15’ deep and is crystal clear with modern docks, 30, 50 and 100 amp power, water to all docks, fuel dock with excellent quality fuel and a ships store with the basics including wine and liquor. The resort includes 14 beautifully furnished two story, two bedroom town homes and have now added 18 new one bedroom cottages. There is a waterfront bar and restaurant and swimming pool. The Cape is holding 13 of the villas and 16 of the cottages for the Club so it will be a first come bases to reserve your room and/or slip.
To Make Reservations please do the following
1. Send an email to Cheryl Bragg at the Club with the boat name, length and beam, owners and/or captains name and contact information and the potential number of guests in your party and the number of villas ( two bedrooms) or cottages (one bedroom) you will want to reserve. As soon as possible we will need the names and contact information including email addresses for all members and your party. Cheryl will draft a spread sheet with all boat and guest information and will get copies to all
2. As soon as we finalize room rates, slip rates, event costs and registration fees, you will need to contact Cape Eleuthera to finalize your rooms, slips, events and provide credit card information. We will attempt to get this to you next week
Other Information
1. One of the many unique aspects on fishing the Cape is you can fish right out in front of the Resort and in less than a half a mile be in 1,300’ of water or run about 7 miles to the North West and fish another great bank or our favorite is to run South 18 miles to the Bridge and fish the drop off from the Southern End of Eleuthera to Little San Salvador. There are many, many reefs for diving and some of the best deep dropping spots we have ever fished. This will be the 5th year Margaret and I have run Hope to the Cape and are now planning on heading down the first or second week in March so we can provide fishing reports once we arrive
2. Rock Sound has the most Southern airport on Eleuthera and there are two flights a day from and to Nassau or you can fly Silver Air from West Palm to Governors Harbor. Rock Sound also has a very well stock grocery store, two liquor stores, two hard ware stores and a NAPA Store. Also you can order groceries from the Market on line and they will deliver to the Cape. Rental cars are available at the airport or at the Cape but, you must reserve in advance
3. It is about 250 miles from Stuart to Powell Point and about 58 miles from Nassau to Powell Point. We will be asking for several owners/captains to act as flotilla leaders and to lead their fleet across the Yellow Bank
4. There is another fun fishing tournament called the Dudley Roberts which is being held starting the Wednesday after the end of our tournament. It is held at Davis Harbor about 10 miles South of the Cape but, you can still stay at the Cape and will only need to go into Davis Harbor to weigh fish and for the events. Let us know is you would like to stay to fish the Dudley Roberts. There should be tournament information on the website at www.davisharbor.com
