36 border collies now in Humane Society care after Palm City hoarding case
PALM CITY, Fla. — The Humane Society of the Treasure Coast is providing urgent care for 36 border collies, including three puppies up to six months old, after the dogs were removed from another hoarding case. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office arrested Paige O’Donnell yesterday, and she is facing felony charges for animal cruelty and improper confinement, according to Sheriff John Budensiek.
Upon intake, the dogs were fed and given water after arriving in deplorable conditions, covered in feces. Most have skin infections, several have eye infections, and many appear withdrawn and catatonic. Some are being shaved under mild sedation due to their emotional distress and physical pain. In some dogs, sharp pieces of metal and glass were found within the matted hair.
Given the dogs’ medical condition and emotional state, the humane society is not projecting when they will be available for adoption. Many will need foster care first as they recover.

Although the border collies are not yet available for adoption, many other animals are ready to find their “fur-ever” homes. Adopting or fostering a current dog, cat, guinea pig or rabbit helps make room for rescued animals while they are being treated.
