“The Vagina Monologues” by Eve Ensler

A.C.T. will open National Women's History Month with Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues,” first billed as a “whirlwind tour of a forbidden zone.”  The 1996 premiere of the stories of self-discovery, violation and passion was an immediate success.  Empowering women, the play became a movement translated into 48 languages and performed in more than 140 countries, sometimes as fund-raisers for V-Day, a global campaign Ensler founded to combat violence against women.  Ms. Ensler’s creation is still important today, particularly in light of the current “Me Too” movement.  Mature audiences only.  Performances March 1 – 3: Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  A.C.T. “‘night, Mother” by Marsha Norman

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Nominee for Best Play, this eloquent and enthralling play exposes a difficult moral dilemma.  It begins with Jessie calmly telling her Mama on a typical night in their ordinary lives that by morning she will be dead.  The play offers the reminder that we often fail to have conversations about difficult topics until it is too late, yet leaves theater-goers feeling positive as they come to understand Jessie’s plight.  Performances April 5 – 20: Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 3:00 p.m.  A.C.T. Studio Theatre, Cedar Pointe Plaza, 2399 SE Ocean Blvd., Stuart.  Tickets $25.  For tickets and information please call (772) 932-8880 or visit actstudiotheatre.com

“The Nerd” by Larry Shue

One of the funniest plays ever written, this extraordinarily inventive farce was the top-grossing American play in London’s West End in 1986. The action centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect who is visited by a man he's never met but who saved his life in Vietnam.  He had written to his hero to say that, as long as he is alive, "you will have somebody on earth who will do anything for you."  Only his “hero” turns out to be an incredibly inept bumbling oaf with no social sense, little intelligence, even less tact and no desire to leave. Performances May 4 – 19: Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 3:00 p.m.  A.C.T. Studio Theatre, Cedar Pointe Plaza, 2399 SE Ocean Blvd., Stuart.  Tickets $25.  For tickets and information please call (772) 932-8880 or visit actstudiotheatre.com

“Stop Kiss” by Diana Son

Friendship blossoms into love between two previously heterosexual women, but when they finally share a kiss, Sara becomes the victim of a brutal attack.  With scenes leavened by warmth and humor, the play offers tender rewards as Callie confronts a range of emotions while Sara lies in the hospital. "A poignant and funny play about the ways, both sudden and slow, that lives can change irrevocably," wrote Variety. “To love is to declare oneself, and ‘Stop Kiss’ should speak to anyone who has had to search deep within to find the strength and conviction to join hands with another. I can't remember when a love story has moved me more,” Charles McNulty of the LA Times.  Performances June 1 – 16: Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 3:00 p.m.  A.C.T. Studio Theatre, Cedar Pointe Plaza, 2399 SE Ocean Blvd., Stuart.  Tickets $25.  For tickets and information please call (772) 932-8880 or visit actstudiotheatre.com
